Academic Search Complete logo and linkAcademic Search Complete is an EBSCOhost database that provides access to articles from journals, newspapers, magazines, and more.  This is a great general multisubject database to begin your research on any topic. 

Access Academic Search Complete

  1. Start from the Los Angeles Southwest College home page: www.lasc.edu
  2. Click on the Library button from the top menu
  3. Click on the button for A to Z Databases
  4. Scroll down the page and click on the Academic Search Complete link
  5. From off-campus, you must log in to access the databases:
    • Enter your LACCD ID number or student email address and your password (same as Canvas)
  6. To begin your search, find the search box and enter your keywords or search statement.
  7. Click on the "Online full text" button
  8. Then click on "search" or press the enter key.
  9. Review your search results list.

For more details, click on the title of the article or click on "View details."

Filters 

Use the various options to limit your results by type, date, subject, or more.  

 

  1. To see only peer-reviewed or scholarly publications, click on the "Peer review/Scholarly" button.
  2. To see articles published in a particular date range, click on the "All Time" button and select your date range.
  3. To see specific articles by type such as just journals, magazines, or newspapers, click on the "Source Type" button.

  1. Click on the "All Filters" button to see all the filter options available. 
  2. Select your desired options.
  3. Click on "Apply."

 

Open an Article

 

  1. Below the article information, click on "Access options."
  1. Select one of the options. 
    • If available, select the PDF option.
    • PDF option provides the actual page numbers for your article.
  1. Read the article, and locate facts, concepts, or other information relevant to your research topic.  

    Be sure to keep track of your notes and the page numbers, if applicable.

Use Tools to Manage the  Article

  1. download the article to your own device
  2. search within the file 
  3. listen to the article 
  4. get the citation 
  5. share the article:
    • save to Google Docs
    • e-mail the article
