Start with the author of the web page, date of publication, title of the source/web page, name of overall website, and then the URL. Add a retrieval date if the contents of the page are designed to change over time.

    • use sentence capitalization style (capitalize the first letter in the first word of the title and subtitle, and capitalize proper nouns only)

In-Text Citation

Most websites do not have page numbers, so just use the author's last name in parenthesis and year of publication. 
When quoting directly from a web page with no page numbers, provide the readers with another way of locating the quoted passsage such as heading or section name, paragraph number, etc.

 

Paraphrase

Your sentence containing the paraphrase goes here followed by the in-text parenthetical citation in the body of your essay (Allen, 2020).


Direct Quote

Your sentence containing the "direct quotation" (Allen, 2020, para. 2).

  1. Author - If no person is identified as the author, start the citation with the specific agency responsible for the web page as the author = National Institute of Mental Health.
  2. Date of publication or revision (year, month day format) = (2018, July).
  3. Title of the source/specific web page from the website = Anxiety disorders.
    • italicize
    • use sentence capitalization style
  4. Publisher spot: list the parent agency/agencies = US. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health.
